Minot is located two hours from the Manitoba, Canada, border in North Dakota, making it a popular destination for both Canadian and American travelers. Rich in Scandinavian heritage, this city has a number of Nordic-related attractions, including the Norsk Hostfest, a large celebration in mid-October of culture held in the Scandinavian Heritage Park. Home to Minot State University, Minot offers visitors and residents alike a variety of cultural events through the university’s many arts programs, including operas, plays and concerts. Each year in late July, thousands of people travel to this Central North Dakota city for the North Dakota State Fair, which boasts world-famous performers, a carnival and agricultural events. Families can pass time at the Roosevelt Park Zoo, viewing hundreds of different animals and learning at the educational center. A transportation hub, Minot supports several museums detailing the evolution of the rail and air industries at the Dakota Territory Air Museum and the Minot Railroad Museum.
